Opal Doublet

Opal doublets are a composite, comprising of a very thin layer of opal stuck to layer of black glass or poor quality opal. These are lively stones, displaying all the fire of quality black opal, but because the opal layer is so thin, they are prone to cracking and are easily damaged. Opal triplets, because of their protective layer of crystal, are a better choice for rings.
